Re: [RC] Saddle for wide back horse - Chris Paus

I ride my mare in a Duett AP saddle. She required a 36 cm gullet. I couldn't find a western type saddle to fit her. I am a heavyweight rider and was concerned about the weight distribution on her back. but the Duett seems to do a good job. I've started the mare in CTR this year and she's doing well. Her back is fine. She is smooth to ride and I have no problem up and down steep hills in the Duett.

I can't say enough good things about this saddle for wide horses! the ONLY negative I could find is that the girth billets are very stiff when the saddle is new, but now that I've had my saddle a year and have put a lot of miles on it, the billets are nicely pliable and move on the buckle rollers nicely.

Hey I ride in a dressage saddle-ok not the greatest for going
down hill but it fits my horse.

Try looking at the Duett saddles, they are made for wide back
hard to fit horses. I have looked at them and they are well
made and not all that expensive.
