Re: [RC] Lost horse - Julie Fuller

Several years ago a friend of mine lost a couple of horses while hunting in Idaho. An appy mare, and a jack donkey. The mare had come into heat, the jack got loose, tried to breed her, she got loose, and before anyone could get out of their sleeping bags to catch them, they took off.

My friend and his extended family stayed in the area for three more weeks (They hunt every year in the same area and everyone stays about a month total) While hunting in this area, they were out every day on horseback... never saw "hide nor hair" of the lost ones. They told everyone they came across about them, posted signs locally, talked to the rangers etc. When they came home they figured they'd never see them again.

About two months later they got a call from a ranger. A local rancher had called, told him he had an appy mare and a donkey running with his cattle when he fed that morning. About a month later, my friend went over and got them... both were still pretty thin, even after a month of good feed, but they were fine otherwise.

Just another "keep your hopes up" story!

Julie
