[RC] Conjunctivitis - Nina Vasiliev

I have one retired (at 7 yrs old, but that's another story...) morab in my herd of 3. I noticed that the flies were bothering his eyes and the next day his eyelids were swollen. I put a fly mask on him. The day after that, I checked and found that he had swollen lids and a bit of pus coming from his eyes.

I'm a Physician Assistant and practice human medicine, so I ordered some garamycine ophthalmic ointment and started treating both his eyes. On the second day I noticed that his cornea was cloudy from outer aspect to about a third of the way down in one eye. I freaked out and called my vet, who suggested that I stain his eye and look for ulsers. I did that and I didn't notice any. The vet had said, that the cloudiness might be corneal edema, and that if he had ulsers to continue treating him but to put the meds in his eyes 3-4 times a day instead of twice.

So, I have continued to treat him. But it has been one week since I started and I have run out of one tube of ointment, and I have switched to drops now. His edema is better but still present. I'd like my vet to come look at him since he isn't well yet, but she is out of town now...

So, any thoughts while I wait for her to come back? How long does it usually take for this to clear up?
Should I call a different vet to have them come out to look rather than wait another 4-5 days?
