I don't remember if you said what type of saddle you use, but what about the 
stirrups? My mare HATES it if the off stirrup swings down & hits her side. I 
always have to make sure it's tied up when I saddle.  It only takes one time 
of forgetting or having it come loose and she'll try to evade the next 
saddling.
