Mary Ann and others,

generally these ads want to see your item. They read like spam mail. you can insert item here... it could be boat, car, jewelry, horse, whatever. Seems they want it.. (NOT).

The trick is they send you a money order for MORE than the amount of the sale. You cash the money order and send them back the difference, supposedly for shipping. They get the cash and you are left with a huge hole in your bank account when the bank realizes the MO is a phony.

It happened to a guy in a small town near where I live. Over a car. he felt pretty foolish after he realized he'd been had and I'm sure the way we all live from paycheck to paycheck (or most of us anyway) it was a hit he couldnt' afford.

These scams can seriously hurt your credit and give youa criminal record.  Their cashier checks are FAKE, but when YOU cash them, YOU are stuck with the criminal charge of "passing a forged/counterfiet document"
And you are out thousands of dollars.    They rarely pick up the item.

After you get one or two of these, I like to reply to them that I won't "deal" with them and that, in fact, their email has been forwarded to the FBI and the FCC for mail fraud.    I haven't been bothered in a LONG time.

Good luck - and remember to trust your instincts - if it smells rotten, it usually is.
