[RC] TWH gait - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I to, have a TWH/Appl. cross that pace, RW, trots, racks, etc. He was a gift
to me from my mother-in-law. It is personal preface to me when it comes to the
gait, I do not mind the pace as long as we are riding slow, now trying to ride
a pace at some speed is not for me, and now that I am preganant it is really
not for me! I just prefer other gaits. I will say I spent a lot of time
working to develop cues for the gaits, and there was a many of frustrating days
spent in the ring just starting and stop till he got what I was asking for.
The rack is still hardest gait to get him to hold, but it is a lot of fun to
ride. I have never used a harsh bit on him, although his previous owner used a
large walking bit. I use a snaffle bit on the trail, and if I am doing ring
work, I just use a rope halter and attach reins, works just fine. Actually my
dressage instructor (who is very traditional) about died the first time she saw
me work my Stormy like this, she could not belive how collected he was, anyway
that is another story!
My guys is barefoot, always has been, and well I live in the south where you
can ride without shoes in lots of places, so I see no need to shoe just trim,
saves me money that I can apply to other horse goodness! The way I look at
it, is I have a horse who has more gears than I know what to do with sometimes,
and that works for me, it might work for everyone though! Just my two cent!

Faith

PS Thank you everyone who responded to a building stall out of corral type
tubes all the response were appreciated by me and my mother-in-law!
