[RC] Shoeing before a ride - mkrumlaw

IMO - The time between a reset and a ride somewhat depends on your
farrier and your comfort level with his/her abilities. I can and have,
had my farrier reset my horses on a Friday morning we were off to a ride
immediately there after. On two occassions these were 100's. I try to
stretch the resets to 5 to 6 weeks and never compete after 4 weeks. I
stretch the time between resets to make sure there's enough hoof to trim
off so the farrier is left good solid hoof to nail and clinch.

This may not work for everyone, but it seems to work very well for me.

I've had some lameness pulls but most of those have been related to
scratches (sigh..) the others were related to something stupid we did at
the ride, like get into quick sand or other such foolishness.
