Re: [RC] Secrets to Hydration??? help...... - RDCARRIE

I, too, have hydration problems, and am eagerly awaiting input from others.  Here's what I do...I wear a 100 oz. Camelbak.  On hot rides I fill it with a mix of water and Hydralyte (used to be called Gookinaid), approximately 1/2 the recommended strength.  On rides with more moderate temps, I just use water.  Tried gatorade, but it didn't sit well with me, and the higher potassium/lower sodium of Hydralyte seems to do better for me.  I *try* to drain it every loop, but often don't.  :(  I also make myself drink as much water as possible during holds.  My problem is that I sweat a LOT (guess it's my Scandanavian/Irish heritage?), so I think I just get into a hole, expcially being in hot/humid SE Texas, where sweat doesn't evaporate and help cool you.  :(  I know I'm getting dehydrated, because during a typical 50 (7 1/2 - 9 hour ride time for me) I might only pee once!
I've been trying some of the drinkable yogurt/smoothie products, and am going to use those during a hot 50 next weekend.  And my final defense is to not do 50s after May in Texas...I just get too sick in the heat/humidity.  I can do them in New Mexico, but not in the humidity.  I wait till the cooler weather of fall arrives (end of Sept.) before doing 50s again.
