We didn't stay at the convention center.  We flew in just ahead of the
storm, and went up to my then-husband's sister's place, somewhere a bit
north of Atlanta.  So we commuted in her car through that snow to attend. 
I can still remember her wringing her hands as we set out the first
morning, saying about her car, "It has all-weather tires, but I don't know
if this is one of the weathers!"

The highway really wasn't all that bad for a couple of rural
"nawthroners"--all the folks from Atlanta who didn't have a clue how to
drive in it stayed home.  I don't think we saw more than a couple of cars
in the hour that it took us to drive down.  Worst of it was that the first
day, the visibility was poor, and we couldn't see the convention center
from the street--I stopped to ask directions, and it turned out that it
was the very next place to the one where we stopped.  We had a great time
going back and forth and being the lone drivers on Atlanta roads.  <g>

The bad part was that we had a full week of being tourists planned after
that, and the first few days we were limited to Atlanta because the roads
further north were still closed.  <sigh>  But we did eventually get to see
part of what we went to see...
