Hi Dabney,
I'm not sure *I* could handle that but I might have to. I have a horse who when fresh is NEVER content with the pace I pick, even if that pace is a hand gallop. I've been working with him for 4 years and he still hasn't gotten it.
Your reverse psychology appeals to me <evil grin>. In fact, I've used it very successfully on training a horse not to charge up hills. "You want to run up this hill, sucker? Ok, but you have to run till *I* say stop." They always want to stop at some point and that's when they discover the curmugeon on their backs won't let them.
Still, I'm not sure I have it in me to go that route on the flat. Hmmm... maybe I could try it at the bottom of a mountain :)
