Sorry I am coming in late on this, I am only on digest #2617.  I'm
trying to catch up!  : )  I also hope this hasn't been mentioned.  

Anyhow, be very careful with pipe corrals especially if you plan on
foaling out in a stall with them.  The foal can roll under to the other
side away from the mare.  It is also possible for the foal to become
trapped between them.  If you do use them you could do what I did which
is attach conveyor belt to it to make it a solid wall.  It is also
forgiving but strong enough to withstand hooves and teeth.  

I also had a friend whose mare (not a foal but a large 16+ hand horse)
got stuck somehow in pipe corral fencing.  She tore her legs up so bad
it was down to the bone.  She had to go to the vet for reconstructive
surgery.  Thankfully she is fine now but one of the legs is permanently
larger than the other, a kinda stocked up look to it.
