I would second Chris Paus' recommendation to look at Duett saddles. I have a 
very broad, mutton withered mare that I've had a horrible time finding 
something to fit. I had her in a sportsaddle for a while, which was just OK. 
It didn't seem to bother her, but it wasn't very stable and definitely 
creeped forward throughout a ride, even on relatively stable terrain. It 
also was constantly shifting from side to side. I also tried another 
treeless model, but wasn't thrilled with it either. I had also tried a wide 
variety of English saddles, including Wintecs, County, Rembrandt, Thorowgood 
(that was probably one of the best fits of all of them), and many others.

I just got a Duett Companion trail saddle, and am very impressed with the 
fit of this saddle on my mare. Now, I have not had a chance to do tons of 
riding in it right now, but I could tell right away that the balance of the 
saddle was finally right on my horse. The workmanship is great for the 
price. I bought the Companion Trail model; however, mine is a brand new 
version that does NOT have extended endurance panels, as my mare is very 
short backed as well and also kind of scoops up in back. I do still plan on 
riding with a crupper, but I've already noticed that this saddle is much 
more stable than any previous ones.
