Re: [RC] [RC] Pipe Corrals - Soli Sorokin

I've had good luck with pipe corrals until recently. I've got a
yearling Tennessee walker colt that loves to climb everything,
including those rails. He tries to stand up on the rails with his
front legs and usually ends up threaded through the rails up to his
shoulders. He then pulls himself back out without incident and tries
again. He only gets stuck when he rolls too close to the panels, and
then invariably just lays there until help comes- seems like as long
as he has his back legs under him he can get out. Getting him out when
stuck usually means disconnecting the panel and moving it until the
leg clears it, although when he was much smaller my mother went out
and dragged him out of the fence by his tail :-/ The pipe corral
enclosure is about a quarter acre pen....plenty of room to roll other
than the sides.

If my arab liked to roll close to the rails, I'd get worried - he is
not as calm about getting his legs stuck in things. Thrashing and
kicking out when stuck in those rails will probably make for some
nasty injuries.

This colt also climbs up on the wheel well of the trailer so he can
look over the top. He'll stop if disciplined, but only until 1) no
one is nearby and 2) he gets bored. I really am not sure how to stop
this - it's not only dangerous but it has destroyed the trailer paint.

I prefer good old electric wire atop a nice wood or wire fence, which
is what we're almost done building for this colt. Anyone have ideas
for electrifying the side of a trailer? ;)
