RE: [RC] re: Pommel Packs-another thought - Nancy Sturm

Yes! Cindy is so right. I went off last fall and landed hard in an
abandoned farm equipment yard (like concrete!). I pulled my cell phone
from my pocket, while lying flat on my back and called 911 and my husband.
Had an absolutely miserable 25 mile ride on a back board and two
compression fractures of vertebrae, but I'd have been a lot more miserable
if I had to wait until someone noticed I was missing.

When I read about losing the cell phone, I felt I needed to write and say
that you should never have your cell phone or GPS attached in any way to
the horse. They need to be attached to your body. They are most valuable
in an emergency...when you and your horse are parted and you need help.
BTW, I always get a cell number for ride management and write it on my
hand or vet card, so I can call for help if needed. This past weekend I
felt terrible when a rider was hurt out on the trail and I had left my
cell phone in my truck accidentally. Bet I won't forget again any time
soon. Cindy
