[RC] gaited horses- long term soundness - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I have been searching for a new CTR and limited distance horse to have fun with
and have started researching gaited horses. I have enjoyed all the info in the
archives about the different breeds. I have been told by two people now,
however, not to go gaited as they do not hold up as well in the long run as
trotting horses becuase of the extra leg motions and looseness. That their
tendons and ligaments and such are breaking down in thier early teens. Having
had to retire a half arab very early due to ligament problems due to poor
conformation I just thought I'd check if this was a fair assesment of gaited
horses in general. I know of several going well in thier late teens but
wondering if they are the norm or the exception.

Thanks,
Amy
