RE: [RC] guest rider etiquette - Ranelle Rubin

Hal Hall used to really love my whole wheat oatmeal raisin cookies. Yummy treats are a great idea, yes!

Hi,

I would be prepared to take on more than half of the expenses. Offer to pay
for all the gas, all the food for you two humans, and bring at least one
really yummy treat whether it be something sweet, or a killer lunch for the
vet check. You should pay your ride fees, and if the horse needs shoes just
so you can ride, then offer to pay for that. Most people may not take you
up on all this, but be happy if they do.

Remember, the owner of the rig will be incuring all the wear and tear on his
vehicle and tires. He/she has been feeding, vetting, outfitting, shoeing
the horse you will be using. If something happens to their horse, they will
have to take the time off to meet the vet. They will do the daily
bandaging, the daily worrying, etc. These are expences that someone else
will have to lay out in order for you to have one day of fun. Yes, the
owner would have done that anyway. But they still had to do it.

I would prefer that when someone offers me a horse, that at the end of the
ride, they feel like they are ahead of the game because I came along...not
just even.

JMO,

Nina
