Re: [RC] Sand Dune Pony - Barbara McCrary

Speaking of which, does anyone know why the fad of breeding 1400# QHs with 00 feet started? I can't imaging WHY anyone would want tiny little feet on any horse, much less one that big. And so many of the QHs nowadays are BIG....15.3 or better. When we last owned QHs, in the early 1970s, their feet were much more in proportion to their bodies. Personally, and I know others will disagree, I like 14.3 as about the right size for a horse. Easier to mount and dismount and less height from which to fall.

Hey Angie,

No one else seems to have replied to this. Yep, I read "Sand Dune Pony", and anything else that had a horse in it :).

Didn't that also feature two appaloosas? Raindrop was one and I can't remember the name of the other off the top of my head. Anyway, the old man who was the young boys mentor drove to a wagon as well as used them for riding. I seem to recall that he didn't consider a horse who could do both as being broken?

Don't remember that the hooves did the "pony" any harm. Supposed to have just help with running in the sand. Those old boys who looked down on him probably helped start the "tiny foot" quarter horse craze. <G>.
