Re: Fw: [RC] Purina?? - Paul Latiolais

I wonder what the protein, fiber etc. breakdown of COB (3 way) looks like compared to these other feeds. If we are only using it as a vehicle and not using too much, why not? It surely is a lot cheaper. I DO worry about the high protein.

Whatever happened to Purina 100, 200, 300? (For idle,

And was tasty, too. And does regular Omelene have too much sugar for
some horses?

Just curious. Presently using plain 3 way, COB to some of you. Seems to
work fine mixed with beet pulp when wanted.

Subject: [RC] Purina??

Speaking of feeds, I am in the process of changing feeds. If anyone
has feedback on the following, please do.

My feedstore has become unreliable,so I am changing stores and hence
have to change feeds. The new store is a Purina store. I guess they
are all either Purina or Darigold, along with MAYBE some local feeds.

So, I used to feed an 11% protein, alfalfa based local feed with
minimal sugar. I only feed 1-2 lbs a day mixed in with lots of wet
beet pulp and vitamins and a Selenium and Vitamin E suppliment. The
feed is more a device to encourage them to eat everything else.

I looked at two Purina feeds today:

Ultium and Strategy AX.

The Ultium was twice as expensive as the Strategy. The store clerk did
not know why, and the printed materials did not help. The only real
difference (aside from price) that I could tell was that Ultium has a
lot of sugar and also has beet pulp. I can add my own beet pulp.

I decided to "try" the Strategy.

Comments???
