[RC] choking on beet pulp...dry or wet - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I have a 28 year old mare that NEVER bolts her food (in fact is known as the
slowest eater at our barn) and a couple months ago she choked on well soaked
WET beet pulp!!! Was very scary and I had the vet on the phone, but did not
need him to come out as she resolved the choke on her own.

So, don't assume dry beet pulp is all they can choke on. I still feed this
mare wet beet, however my vet suggested I mix it in with her regular feed. I
have now done this several times with no problems.

Ironically my younger mare will ONLY eat beet pulp dry or very well hidden in
with her feed. The older mare just loves it though so I mix it in with her
feed now and then.

Tracey
