Re: [RC] what's the best way to attach the spong to a dressage saddle? - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

what do you use for a leash for your sponge? and also, i noticed at
the last ride i volunteered at, that some people used some kind of a
mesh to hold their spong in place on a saddle. where do you get the
mesh (is it like a woman's hair net?) and what's the benefit of using
it?

Do you intend to sponge on the fly or just take it out everyonce in awhile? Are
you in a hurry, or just trying to finish in the time limit? I think all that
affects your set up.

I hang mine on the ring on the side of the breast collar when I do hang it up.
I used to put a velcro off an old leg wrap around the middle of the sponge
where the string is tied (only one I found strong enough to hold it) instead of
a snap because I didn't like scraping the snap down the horse's neck. I prefer
a light cotton cord, no bag, just a sponge and a string. You can hang the
sponge on the breastcollar and still have the string to your wrist. That way
you don't waste a lot of time getting it out to sponge. I sponge more at
mudholes on the fly so that when I stop at water he can drink without me
throwing the sponge the whole time.
