[RC] "natural" as in Natural Balance - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I took the original question to be asking for a comparison between Strasser and
Gene Ovenick's Natural Balance method.I cannot speak for Mr.Ovenick,but will
tell you that his method is very specific about a lot of things and that ,as I
get it,it does not attempt to measure "hoof angles" in relation to the pastern
or anything else,these measurements apparently being essentially impossible to
make and/or meaningless in and of themselves.His trimming cuts(for shoeing or
barefoot) are "indicated"(in the sense a machinist would use that term) by a
very subtle external indicator of the coffin bone tip called the sole
callous,found just below the exfoliated sole,in front of the frog.Generally
speaking,his trims are not so conservative as most folks believe .He generally
DOES cut away all exfoliation,but no more than that.Mr.Ovenick's videos are
excellent,as an addition to the text material which is found on the Natural
Balance website. The angles that result in the finished product are for the
most part not a consideration.YOU WILL SEARCH LONG AND HARD TO FIND A FARRIER
WHO KNOWS THE NB METHODS. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO ONE WAY OR THE OTHER WITH THE
UTILITY OF THE NB METHOD.
