Re: [RC] Papers and horses - Bette Lamore

I would think that a smart competitor would strike a deal after the first few wins, long
before the first "+" that either the breeder signs over the papers, or the
campaigning stops. Unless the breeder is a total idiot and wants to cut off his nose to
spite his face, I would think he would be happy not to have the expense and yet share in
the glory! He can advertise the gelding as a success of his breeding program!
(sorry for the gender use, but I can't imagine a woman breeder doing that ;-)
oh oh-- get the asbestos suit on :-)

Except that without transferring papers ownership stays with the breeder
as far as the breed association is concerned and now, when You have
campaigned your gelding to Legion of Merit status, as far as any
reporting is concerned, its NOT your horse. Seems a tad unfair, AND
misleading.

Retaining
papers on a gelding makes almost no sense, unless you are very
embarrassed with his conformation and don't want people to think he is
representative of your breeding program.
