Re: [RC] [RC] to shoe, redeux... - terry banister

You are right Joe. It did come off sounding snide - and I do apologize, to you, and anyone else who took it that way.
But the meaning behind the statement is something I would like to rephrase: If someone is considering doing ANYTHING "NONTRADITIONAL," and they need to ask whether or not they should attemt it, then IMHO, they are NOT ready.

Again, I apologize for sounding KNOW-IT-ALL, because I am very much in a TEST-PILOT frame of mind when it comes to the topic of "alternative hoof protection for competition horses." But when people respond to the "barefoot" topic with a statement about checking the RideCamp "archives", I cannot help but mutter that those answers BELONG in the archives.

How can anyone not see that there is more professional, dedicated, even scientific study and findings on the "B" topic than ever before?
How can anyone not see that the technology behind equine tack and equipment is evolving, especially in these last five years, at an excellerated rate?

Why would a lot of people not be excited to hear that we are now testing a newly designed Easy Boot EPIC WITHOUT A BUCKLE, and therefore, no cotter pin? Think about how fast it would be to replace that boot on the trail, as apposed to replacing a lost shoe. If boot design is getting close to the point that they stayed on through most terrain, and did not cause horse problems of their own, who would miss paranoia?
Think about not having to make the decision whether to pad a horse or not. Wouldn't it be nice not to have to pick their feet or worry about a stone ruining the trot-out?

So who are the riders that want that test to fail?
Heck, I am already waiting for the boot that can be applied WITHOUT BENDING OVER. Don't laugh, they did it with ski bindings!

<sigh>

This is the kind of zealotry that causes me to try to avoid reading these
"barefoot" threads. This kind of snide, condescending reply to someone asking a
question. With the implication that if you "nail on steel" you are part of the
ignorant or uncaring masses (while the author is one of the enlightened few).

Give me a break.
