We float a 1x6 piece of board in our waterer that the squirrels have fallen into.

Last year we lost a Kestrel in our water tank.  I guess he came down for a drink, fell in and drown.   I have dished out an occasional game bird too.  What a waste...
 
Does anyone have any ideas for a "critter ladder" or "float" to assist fallen birds, etc. out of the horse's water tanks??
