[RC] donkey, abcess, vet? - katswig@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Laurie Durgin said:

Or, since the abcess has already blown, should I just work on
cleaning out the hole (as my daughter suggested,
squirt Iodine in the hole)
and work with his feet ,and then get the farrier to trim again?
Should I
leave him out or stall him ? Try to soak or wrap?
Or call the vet, have him tranqualized, examined, trimmed etc?

If the donkey is still sore, call the vet and have it tranquilized so that
the cause can be properly addressed.

If you think there is a threat of infection in the hole in the foot, call
the vet and have the donkey tranquilized so that the wound can be properly
cleaned.

If you don't know whether there is a threat of infection, and you can't get
the donkey to stand still to have it looked at to figure it out, call the
vet so you can have him tranqulized.

If you think it will heal on its own without any treatment, let it heal on
its own while you teach the donkey to stand still for having its feet
messed with (although, you may want to try tranqulizing for this in the
early stages as well).
