[RC] Hiking boots/running shoes - Julienne

Speaking of trail running shoes, I bought a pair of these:

They're great shoes, they come up about mid-ankle, but the tongue of
the shoe is driving me CRAZZZZZZZZZYYYYY!! It's a poofier tongue so
the laces slip down, tightening around my ankle which is uncomfortable
(and the poofy tongue just looks stupid - I hate them). Any
suggestions on how to alleviate this? Should I just cut the tongue in
half so it's not as thick? Any suggestions? I don't care what it
looks like in the end.. as long as it isn't poofy anymore.

To make this endurance related, the poofy tongue gets caught on my
stirrups.. not good! :P
