Re: [RC] [RC] Hay Fields - Laurie Durgin

hhhmmm, I know that chicken manure is veeerrrry high in Nitrogen. ---Wonder how that translates.....I know as a gardener that I don't dare use it fresh or without watering in good or it will burn..... (have had a few chickens as pets and garbage disposals.....) I "might " also be a bit concerned about botulism, if conditions were ripe....OTOH ... My guess ,is those dead chickens don't stay anywhere for long... coyotes, possums, raccoons, skunks, etc. probably get them at night---
BTW My trapped possum count has been 5 this fall and winter... and I am somewhat NOT diligent about setting it all the time, so figure about every month I catch one....

Hey Buddy,

All I can say is I buy my hay from a fellow who also has several huge
chicken houses. The hay's beautiful, but when there came a sudden shower
and we had to pull the trailer into his huge machinery barn we saw this
big section that was compost pile which I assume also ends up on the
fields. Turns out they throw the dead chickens in there. I've seen
feathers on the fields before but no carcusses. :-P The hay's gorgeous,
the horses are fat & healthy so far. :-)
