[RC] Rounded Frame - djadh

Hello All,

   Have never posted before, prefer reading what everyone else has to say;
but I wanted to help clarify the purpose and benefit of a rounded frame. I
will say training on the trail and in competition is not the place to first
implement this concept. It is best done in a training ring with the aid, if
possible, of someone proficient in Dressage.
The purpose of putting a horse in a round frame is for his well being.
In properly doing so over time you will strengthen the horse's back and
stomach muscles, thus helping to protect the back from injury. The horse
will be better able to bear the weight he carries.
If you have an otherwise healthy back try this little experiment: Walk
around for a while with your back purposely hollowed until it begins to
tire. But please be careful as your back begins to be taxed, you are more
vulnerable to straining those lower back muscles. Now stretch yourself out a
bit to avoid cramping. Now tuck your pelvis and walk around as your were
previously doing. In doing so you are rounding your back and relieving those
tired back muscles.
As many may already know, one of the best preventatives to lower back strain
and injury is to have strong stomach muscles. As with people practicing good
posture, working a horse in a round frame will help him have better posture
and stronger back and stomach muscles. Perfect practice, developing good
muscle memory, becomes a good habit for both horse and human.
Ridecamp is the best email list I have been on, you people are great!
