Re: [RC] [RC] moving to CA from NY - Peter Harper

Dave,

Lyme disease is well established in NY. The name
comes from Lyme, Connecticut were it was first
diagnosed.

We used live in NY in the Hudson Valley and a good
friend of ours was diagnosed with Lyme disease in the
late '80s. Lyme disease was not well understood at
the time and at first they thought she had spinal
meningitis. Once they understood it was Lyme disease
it was well established in her system. She underwent
years of heavy duty IV antibiotics
and never fully recovered.

I was personally bitten by a deer tick and my doctor
started me on oral antibiotics as a preventative
measure. He said it was better to treat it early
before it is established in your system. After seeing
what our friend was going through I thought it was the
smart thing to do.

We now live in Texas, home of the South American Fire
Ant.

Cheers, Pete

Lucy:

You forgot deer ticks and lime disease. My
sister-in-law contracted
the disease from a tick (don't know whether horses are
susceptible) and
it is really no joke. She nearly died. She's finally
recovering after
three years of feeling really miserable. During the
hot months, make
it
a ritual to check yourself and your kids and pets for
ticks. Learn
what
a deer tick looks like (we've got other kinds too.)
