[RC] Biodiesel - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I've used biodiesel for most of 2004/2005 in my GMC 3500. The research that I
have done on Biodiesel (as well as evidence from people that have been using it
for 20 years or so) is that it is completely safe on the engine and can
actually prolong the life a bit because it provides better lubrication than
diesel (don't get it on your paint, though!). However, it is prohibitively
expensive right now in the NW ($4.20 a gallon when I filled up last month).

The diesel engine was originally made to run on vegetable oils. And, I
understand the government engines do just that in some foreign countries when
they have trouble getting petro.

I'm interested in the Greasel converter since it doesn't look hopeful for
Biodiesel to come down anytime soon.

On a promising note: The city of Seattle, WA is using biodiesel in it's buses
(should have them all using biodiesel by the end of this year) and it's
ferries. In addition many of the school districts in the Seattle area are
using biodiesel as well. The prices should come down if more commercial users
convert. However, grease will always be cheaper :-)
