==========================================

I have started 4 young horses (2 yo) over the years and have learned a bit
about balancing myself in order to help them when taking their first hills, up
and down. You won't really notice it with an older, more experienced horse, but
it seems to be easier for the youngsters if I stay deep in the saddle, and only
bend forward from the waist, just enough to keep my upper body vertical. So, I
guess I'd have to agree with the Parelli theory. Also, I've done some western
pleasure showing and had to learn to sit deep, straight and quiet when asking
for a lope. Otherwise, the rider interferes with the horse's balance and can
cause him to transition less smoothly. This, too, seems to support the Parelli
theory.
