[RC] Whisper syndrome - Patti Kuvik

Not really a "hoax" - Whisper, the subject horse, did die - but maybe a bit
of internet hysteria?
Good article -

It has been interesting to see how "Whisper Syndrome" has taken on a life of
it's own in the internet - from becoming a symptom cluster it was
transformed by the internet into a "new" "disease" "epidemic".
Many of the historic anecdotal stories that have surfaced are just that -
stories - as most of those horses weren't posted.
Perhaps the most pertinent thought that has come out of this is the
importance of doing a post-mortem exam on any horse who died from an
"unknown" cause (i.e. the cause is not obvious) - to identify the actual
cause. This is the only way we can protect our other horses and identify new
or emerging pathogens.
