[RC] Mud and More Mud.....and even More Mud - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

All I know is, I have become a professional water trench digger in the last two
weeks. My horse is boarded and a stallion; he is in an all dirt (I think there
is still some under the water) enclosure, and can't go out in the boarder's
grass section as the adjoining fences are too low and Shaba would have no
problem trotting on through them and introducing himself to all the neighbors'
horses. I go out each day and clean his hooves, then stake him out on the
grass (where I can watch him) and let him munch to get him out of the mud for a
while. In the meantime, I trench to get the flood waters drained out of his
paddock. I was told that wood stove pellets might help; they give the horse
something solid to stand on and absorb a lot of water. Then you can scoop them
out later. I think it might help; my husband is worried that there may be
chemicals or a coating on the pellets that would hurt the horse if he tries to
eat them. Any ideas? A soaked Lauretta and a
soggy-but-thinks-his-mom-makes-too-much-fuss-over-a-little-water Shaba
