Well, here's what my vet says. Yes, at 15 yrs old
the mare (M-Lady Charian, affectionately known as Charly) is at an age to to
suspect tumor or cysts. Her behavioral change is probably due to pain rather
than hormones, as she is not showing stallion behavior to other horses. Don't
get into a battle with her or punish her for the behavior (since it's pain), and let's wait to see if this is
repeated next time she comes into season before doing any testing. I'll let
you know when that happens.
At this, she has returned to her normal, friendly
attitude, but I'm still extremely cautious around her.
