[RC] DuPuis Piney Pig Ride - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

There are a lot of rumors circulating out there! But to clarify some of them:
ALL DISTANCES are being offered 100, 75, 50, 25 and 15 fun miles. This is the
4th Piney Pig ride.
This IS NOT a sandy ride. It is flat, no doubt, but as our trails are not
perfectly groomed it is somewhat technical, especially after the hurricanes.
It can be hot (by northern standards) at this time of year, although last year
we didn't have one metabolic pull because it was cool and rainy. If DuPuis
management ploughs the firebreaks there'll be about 12 miles of sand for the
100s which I drive over with my dually to hard pack it. For the 50s there's
half that. If they don't plough then there's very little sand. For the 100s
there are 20 miles on hard packed dirt and 10 for the 75 milers. The rest of
the ride is on grassy trails through the woods (and around all the trees the
hurricanes felled for us!) I cannot control what management does out there and
sometimes I discover the day before the ride they have ploughed a grassy trail,
but it doesn't happen often.
I have read one person's article about how riders need to plan for water
conditions and ride accordingly. I disagree to the extent that if you don't
know the area and terrain you can't possibly know what is safe water.
Accordingly, I put water out every 3 to 5 miles and mark those natural areas
where I personally take horses to drink.
I provide meals on ride day for the 75 and 100 milers.
If you have any questions about the ride please email me.
Thanks,
Megan Davis
