Bwah!  That line really cracked me up.  Anyway, I just had an experience with this, although it was not with a hay belly.  I have a mare that wasn't ridden much and I had decided that one of her faults was not having a butt.  She had a huge heart girth & shoulder and then this tiny triangle for a hip section.  Then I leased her to a young girl who rides her almost every day and had even started doing some LD rides on her.  I was looking at the mare the other day and wow!  She has a really nice rounded butt!  It makes her look so much more proportionate now, whereas before, she was just majorly front end heavy.
