[RC] Doctrinaire bit nonsense and open minds - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

 Let us in the future observe the "gimmicks" in the mouths of all David
O'Connor's event horses.He and much of the USET have been involved with Parelli
for years-and yet David still sometimes uses a "slider" gag bit,cleverly
disguised as an "ordinary" snaffle.My own favorite new generation gag bit is
not disguised as anything,,and does look like quite a lot of metal gadgetry,yet
it has a three piece "loop" tongue relief mouthpiece which is less severe than
what I think David's has.And neither bit is a "gimmick".Why not call a "regular
snaffle" a gimmick? We all know what the nutcracker effect is. Must the horse
be ridden with nothing at all on his head,to be "gimmick-free"? Must every new
bit design in the future be called a gimmick because it it is not a simple
snaffle? Must the amount of visible metal component be an indication of
severity? Only if one is too lazy to think.Mr.Parelli could teach me a lot,no
doubt.I have some of his books and videos,for I am open-minded to a fault.But
simplistic assertions he has made regarding bits show us that he doesn't have
all the answers.Nobody does.
