[RC] Conditioning an older horse??? - Chris PausHas anyone ever conditioned and competed on an older, 20 something horse that never did distance riding before???? In Sept. I acquired a really cool stallion. His name is Corary Szybki. He was a race horse in his youth. Raced for 4 years, 45 starts,in the money in half his runs, 11 wins... I talked to his trainer who told me they raced that horse sometimes twice a week and he never quit and never had any lameness or back issues. He retired from racing sound... Since then he's been standing at stud and living a pretty relaxed life. He was ridden once in a while. I took him to my chiro vet when I got him. The vet said this horse has really good legs and back. The horse has a marvelous disposition and is quite healthy. I've been riding him lightly at home and can tell that he's got a lot to offer. He feels like he's a lot younger than his 21 years. I don't want to push him too hard and hurt him, but he loves to get out. He's very well behaved. I'm thinking of taking him out to our local trails someday to see how he does with terrain, rocks and hills... and I'm starting to think he could do some easy LDs... what do you all think??? you can see his pictures at my website: http://pages.prodigy.net/paus thanks chris ===== Chris and Star BayRab Acres http://pages.prodigy.net/paus =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
