My former employer, a fortune 500 company located in MN, has the rule that
all new product trademarks have to be approved by all of the foreign subs.
This works fine except that one can be sure that the French sub will not
like any name proposed by another operating unit.  The reasons usually do
not make sense to Americans.  Often the result is products are named
something different in France.  Yellow sticky notes are (or at least used to
be) "Papion" in France but "Post-it(R)" everywhere else.
