Ground Control shoes. Why change? Well, it's that human trait (or flaw?) that makes us want to change even when everything is already working fine....in that endless search to make things better. I really don't have an answer other than that. So far, the results have been promising. My youngest horse Granite Chief, has completed 7 50's in them (and 6 w/ metal shoes) and the biggest benefit I have seen for him is that he no longer forges. Or, if he does, I can't hear it :-). I think the lighter weight helps him break over that fraction of a second faster enough to eliminate that. Whatever, it works so we are happy. My other two 'older guys' are into their second shoeing with them (and 8th and 10th ride seasons). They have each now done one 50 in them. I think that any change made on an older campaigner type horse needs to be done gradually. The youngest horse did a 50 only two weeks into the change of shoes, and that is something I would not do again.
