Hi all-
We just had yet another heavy snowfall here in Iowa
(well, that's relatively speaking - I'm originally
from Minnesota and what "I" consider heavy and Iowans
consider heavy are two different things!). 
Anyway, our old and well-used 14 hp lawn tractor w/
snow blower finally gasped its last breath yesterday
trying to clear yet more snow from the drive. So, we
need to figure out what to replace it with, and I'm
wondering what those of you with 'small' acreages use
to maintain them? We're trying to find the most
versatile equipment for what we need. We have 5 acres,
and mow approx 1/2 acre of yard (I'm trying to get
more of that changed to horse pasture but think I've
pushed as far as I can). Once or twice a year we mow
the ignored parts of pasture, and also seed/spray/etc
as needed. We also drag the horse paddock routinely,
year round, and snowblow when necessary (see why our
little lawn tractor has earned its keep and deserves a
noble death?). We're trying to decide if we should get
a bigger lawn tractor (25 hp) for all our summer jobs,
plus a blade for one of the pickups to push snow.
Those two combined would cost approx $4000 (our
budget). We're wondering if we should instead invest
in a 4-wheeler (at about that price), and then
purchase the needed attachments for it as we can
afford to. Do any of you use a 4-wheeler with snow
blade, pull behind mower, etc? If so, does it do the
job well? What size do you recommend? Other
suggestions?
