[RC] starting a young horse - Karen

Very few of these horses were started at a young age. http://www.aerc.org/long_table.asp We are working on getting more of that information together such as what age the horses were first started, age they did their first rides, etc. You can read several interviews already and see for yourself. I think that the fact that these horses have lasted a full decade of doing 50 mile rides in the sport speaks for itself. Starting a horse too young, or doing too much too soon is something that you can't un-do later. There will always be exceptions but looks like most were started around 5, and they have stood the test of time, how many other disciplines can say that, when some use their horses up before ours are even started. There are certainly a lot of late teens and early 20's horses still going down the trail. Karen in NV
