Re: [RC] [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.2192 Christmas ride/getting separated from your horse - Chris Paus

Yes, it's useful to give a horse a treat every time
you dismount... then if you have an unscheduled
dismount, the horse will stick around waiting for his
treat... LOL..

Christmas ride/getting
separated from your horse
Date: Fri, 24 Dec 2004 19:15:57 EST

This summer I was tailing up a very rocky hill,
when Cheers decided to pick
up the pace and went springing up the rocks,
jerking the lead out of my
hands
and causing me to fall on my face. My first
instinct was to holler "WHOA"
which he, of course, ignored. So I started calling
to him in the soupy
baby-talk voice I use when he's out in the pasture
and I have a treat for
him. You
know..."Cheeee-yers, Mommy's got a treeeee-yet."
He immediately stopped
and
waited for me. I never thought that silly little
game I play with him
would
save him from possible serious injury (there was a
road at the top of the
hill), or me from a long walk back to camp!

Chip (the secret's out...I talk baby talk to all my
 critters!)
