Twas the hundred at Goethe
We were ready to ride
all pumped up
so we went and we tried.

Becke came all the way
from Michigan to crew
we had the great plan
knew what we had to do.

Me and the grey
the mare with such heart
all that went by the plan
well, that was the start.

She had a bad cramp
it wouldn't go away
at 45 miles
she went back to camp - to stay.

Now momma was out
but the kid still in the game
Let's get her through
that goal still the same.

Sue took her on
and made 10 more miles
but then she was pulled
just add to the trials.

Ed, Jackie, and Tracy
with Brenda and MaryAnne, too
gathered up my baby
rode into the dark, two by two.

Two more loops
the six they did go
85 miles done
15 left, she did know.

Jesse got up
at 2.30 in the morning
He and Mary Kathryn set out
a new day a-borning...

She'd ridden past her wall
the tears had all dried
her beloved Hyp in great shape
they trotted on out, still in the ride.

Those last 15
were the stuff of a dream
my girl and her gelding
an extra-ordinary team

They finished at last
24 minutes to spare
she knew that they could
Oh, the heart in that pair!

I'm not proud
not one little bit
I'll tell you all over
so listen,and sit!

10 years old, on a barefoot Arab, and qualified for the AERC National
Championships
in the 50 and the 100 mile distances!

Peggy RTYP, mother of Mary Kathryn the hundred miler
