[RC] Lipoma - Surgery or Not? - Ridecamp Guest

Please Reply to: Rebecca zebberdog@xxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
==========================================

I have a gelding that has just be diagnosed with a lipoma in the cecum or colon
area. The horse was exhibiting mild colic symptoms, but it now better after a
few days at the clinic. The vet feels that I have two choices - take him home
and watch to see if there is another episode, or exploratory surgery to remove
the lipoma and see what else is going on... I am quite nervous about surgery,
but don't want to spend my days waiting for a time bomb to go off. Does anyone
have experience with lipomas that are not to the "strangulating" stage, but are
present? Are there other courses to consider? Do lipomas continue to grow, or
re-occur post surgery? Any and all advice would be appreciated. Please
respond to my email: zebberdog@xxxxxxx Thank you for you time and assistance.
