RE: [RC] [RC] You Are So Right, Joe Long - Jena Williams

??? I see as having the opposite effect. Miles would be equal, however point would/should not be. (i.e. placing/BC on a 25 would be worth fewer points than completing a 50) Someone who only competes in the 25 division could not compete in points with someone who does 50's and 100's. Simply, miles are miles are miles (or smiles :-) points are a whole different animal.

That said, I see that the organizational change that this requires is simply not worth the pain and effort. Other than the quarterly discussion along this vein it works fine. LD'ers have their little awards and "real" endurance riders have theirs.

Jena

PS. Personally, I see the current nationa/regional award system as widening the gap between these two groups, not bridging it.

I just read your comments on LD rides & weight divisons, Joe. You are so, so right. I think what this whole thing amounts to is "everyone wants an award, no matter how watered down it is." Can't people be satisfied with using rides less than 50 & 100 miles to work up to more challenging rides? I understand some people don't want to ride 50's for one reason or another & need a LD division, but to combine LD to equal greater distances would be a nightmare for AERC point keeping. Remember what it was like when you & I were getting the point system started on the computer? I know we can't go back to the good old days, but sometimes I yearn for them.
