RE: [RC] [RC] Thrush and Leg Fungus treatment - Laurie Durgin

Something is really irratating that skin.If you are using boots, she may be allergic to the boots. Some horses are sensitive to neophrene or rubber. Or maybe something you are washing the wraps in. harsh detergents or bleach? Try Dreft or Ivory Snow for babies and wash her stuff in that , and double rinse. No fabric softner or bleach.
Or she has some kind of serious fungus and all the wetness and bacteria are irratating it.
J ust like people get rashes from soaps, chemicals ect. Or maybe it is chapping and is raw. Or maybe a fungus.(I have fought all on babies butts(4) and horses).Sometimes a yeast infection on skin can be a rash too. Or severely chapped skin. or a fungus.I'd tell your vet what you are doing, how often and what is happening over the phone maybe first?
But I would stop chemicals first. If it gets worse, then it isn't them. If is gets better. . .
However if it is fungal, I'd try just a fungicide for skin and nothing else.
I'd try to let it air dry as much as possible.
The thrush. We always get some in winter and close to when the farriers due, but only the geldings get it, not my mare.My farrier said the cheapest, easyiset was to put 1-10 bleach in a spray bottle and spray it after I cleaned daily. Not so harsh as to cause other problems, and won't burn.

Star's always been thrush prone, but here lately my usual routine isn't clearing up her problems. She's got thrush in all four feet and instead of improving, it's getting worse. I've tried ThrushBuster, Koppertox, and Hoofmate. Right now I'm applying Hoofmate daily after cleaning the hooves. Any ideas for what will clear up her Thrush? I'm going to call my vet Monday if it's not improving, but hope there's something else out there!

And, on her left fore leg where I've been soakign it everyday she's starting to get some sort of fungus where her skin, hair, etc.. peels off leaving large red, raw patches. I'm raping her 24 hours a day, other than when being soaked. Trying Hoofmate on it, but I'm not sure what it is. Looks like RainRot. Any ideas for clearing it up? If it spreads anymore she's not going to be able to wear wraps or boots!

Thanks,
Steph
