Re: [RC] [RC] Archive Use (boots, etc.) - terry banister

It already is happening.
Because riding barefoot does not mean "bare foot" anymore. It means hoof protection other than stuff nailed to the hoof. And new boots are coming onto the market that make it easier and more reliable than ever.

Hmmmm..By George, I think you're right!

Perspective is interesting.

I had shoes put on Magic just before Goethe. We did 50 miles at Goethe,
another 50 miles at Gator Run. (Both in Florida...flat, sandy, no rocks)
Plus a few short training rides in between. At 7 weeks, my farrier
yanked his shoes, trimmed his feet...and put the shoes back on...hardly
any wear.

Here in the rocky, hilly North Georgia Mountains, if I train hard for a
month over my trails...say 50 miles a week...my shoes are wafer thin,
with the nail heads worn to the point where they "clink" when my guys
walk...in FOUR WEEKS!

I have a great farrier...he always wants to know what I plan to do for
the next 6 weeks...he shoes...and plans his shoeing schedule...around
that.

I challenge ANYBODY to come ride with me barefoot for a month...and have
any foot left on their horse; read that lame...no, not a month, just TWO
WEEKS!

Deal with your horse's feet based on your ride schedule. I damm-well
guarantee you can't ride barefoot in the "technical" rides without
hurting your horse....I don't pad here...but my horses are used to that.
If YOU ride here you will not only shoe, you will PAD...or deal with
stone bruises...read that abcesses.

Come ride with me and I will prove it. IMHO, saying you can run your
horse over ANY terrain in 50 mile or greater Endurance rides barefoot is
stupid. Ain't gonna happen...
