Re: [RC] rump rugs - Stewart, Carrie

If you don't mind me asking, where do you shop for material like the
coated nylon or the denier nylon/condora for your rump rugs?
I make/sew my own but have never been able to find the material so I
have used my old blankets.

Hi, I am a vender and I personally don't mind at
all. I love it when people learn to make their own
stuff. That is how I started, people saw my stuff ,
wanted the same, couldn't find it and asked me to make
it. I decided to make and sell. And have ever
since.

I might add to the "make it your self" though.

In stead of putting gromets and shoe laces etc. What
I do (much more secure) is sew some of the binding,
as a strap (to go through the rings, or onto the girth
etc) and put velcro and maybe even snaps (much easier
to hook and unhook) Whatever you like. You can make
it to fit all types of saddles this way. Make the side
ones (or the middle one) with an extra tie strap for
the roll up part) I also put straps down low with
velcro only, to hook onto the girth so there is no
blowover in the wind.(no amount of weights will keep
it down in a Maine wind) And one more thing I do is
make a tail loop. My horse likes to buck and
sometimes the rugg flips up if I don't have a tail
loop on. If you want to get really extreme you can
even add leg straps, this is for those who plan on
keeping it on for the wholr ride (snow AND wind for
example. You can make a waterproof one by adding
coated nylon (on top) to your wool or polar fleece.
Hope this helps and have fun. Vicki
