RE: [RC] at the end of my rope.... - Ranelle Rubin

Ed,

I have to agree with you on the training methods that work with any horse will work with an Arab. The difference I see is that Arabs generally "get it" quicker and are ready to move on to the next skill. A girlfriend of mine who is a Grand Prix level dressage/jumper "queen" has helped me with finishing on a few horses..She says Arabs are like "tinker toys" in that all you have to do is put the pieces together for them and they do it! She loves helping me as she says it is fun to watch them not resist the training like her T-breds do...

Subject: [RC] at the end of my rope....

that is very true about being able to "read" an individual horse.  i kind of put them into "personality",  or "horsinality" categories,  like psychologists do with people.  you have to pay attention to what the horse is telling you, and he is almost always telling you something.
that said,  the methods i use are very generic,  and so far i havent found a horse that doesnt respond to the same basic training program.  i have had some folks tell me, "oh you have to use different methods with arabs, because they are so smart!"   bull,  the same things work with arabs, as with any other horse.  they are no dumber or smarter on average than any other breed.       ed
